The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Design, has a full-time vacancy for a Civil Engineer IV.

SUMMARY :

To coordinate and supervise the roadway design of a group of Highway Projects.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: Four (4) years of post-baccalaureate experience in engineering.

OR

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.

Experience: Six (6) years of post-baccalaureate experience in engineering.

OR

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in engineering at level equivalent to Civil Engineer I (or higher), plus two additional years of experience in a position comparable to an Engineering Technician.

License/Certification:

1. Professional Engineer (PE) License with designation in Civil, Civil Highway, Geo Technical or Structural Engineering

2. Valid driver's license and/or access to transportation

Other Requirements: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering. Knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of public works. Knowledge of effective supervision. Ability to perform mathematical computations applicable to engineering surveying and design operations. Ability to prepare, interpret and utilize civil engineering plans, maps and specifications. Ability to plan and supervise the work of professional and technical assistants. Ability to make comprehensive recommendations on engineering problems. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, consultants, contractors, and contractor's employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a NH Professional Engineer license within 12 months of hire.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Identifies, analyzes, and evaluates factors within projects in order to resolve conflicts and avoid delays.

Studies and formulates recommendations on engineering and project issues to achieve optimum design.

Communicates with individuals and organizations to coordinate appropriate input into the projects.

Studies, recommends, and presents solutions of design problems to superiors.

Supervises, trains, and directs subordinates to achieve broad engineering goals.

Reviews draft technical reports and correspondence for project development.
