The Criminal Background Check Program (CBC) is a state agency under the Health-Related Licensing Boards dedicated to processing state and federal background checks for all licensees. This position provides program functions related to record keeping, organizational support, research, fingerprinting, and other services to the CBC and its participating boards and is conducted while maintaining strict adherence to confidentiality requirements:

  • Provide organizational support by processing applicant paperwork.

  • Provide outstanding customer service to Board clientele in person, over the phone, or using written correspondence.

  • Accurately transmit data from paperwork and fingerprint cards to the BCA.

  • Review criminal history reports to confirm completeness and accuracy.

  • Perform other related work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Customer service skills sufficient to: 1) perform the duties with politeness, respect, and interest in positive problem solving; 2) provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence; and 3) effectively communicate and elicit information with tact and diplomacy in difficult situations and efficiently resolve customer problems.

  • Knowledge of communications sufficient to 1) write, prepare, and edit materials, using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction; 2) communicate effectively with internal and external customers; and 3) explain reasons for transactions and procedures, rules, and regulations so others understand the information they are being given.

  • Skills in database management sufficient to enter and retrieve data and perform searches to find relevant information and generate a variety of up-to-date reports.

  • Keyboarding/typing skills using Microsoft Word or equivalent software, sufficient to produce documents such as emails, memos, form letters, and other correspondence in an effective and timely manner.

  • Word processing skills sufficient to use software to create, format, edit, print, and save a variety of documents, including spreadsheets, tables, charts, and graphs.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated office skills including filing, photocopying, and scanning.

  • Demonstrated attention to details and the ability to follow specific protocols.

  • Ability to quickly and thoroughly assess information and make logical conclusions.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to prioritize workflow in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move from employee desk to lobby frequently throughout the day.

  • Ability to move boxes of mail or files weighing 25-40 lbs. on a daily or routine basis.
