Director of Music Ministry

The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for the music ministry of Rehoboth United Methodist Church (RUMC) and its role in the enhancement of the worship experience for all congregants. The Director of Music Ministry will ensure that the musical experiences at Rehoboth UMC help to provide an atmosphere that fosters spiritual growth in Christian faith for all who enter.

Duties include the following but are not limited to:

• Supervise Assistant Music Director, Organist/Accompanist, Audio/Video Technician and volunteer A/V Staff, ensuring musical coverage for all scheduled and special worship services and events by making sure that all events are adequately staffed.

• Working with Staff members and volunteers, the Director of Music Ministry will:

o Plan, coordinate and direct all musical contributions to all worship services and special events.

o Plan, organize and coordinate all rehearsals for musical events.

o Recruit, train and supervise members of the Chancel choir, contemporary Praise Team, Hand chime Ensemble, and Audio/Visual Team

o Ensure that Rehoboth is in compliance with any and all copyright laws and license administration

o Ensure that the experience of volunteer involvement in the music ministries at RUMC are worshipful and meaningful by including prayer and devotional time in rehearsal and worship preparation.

• Participate in Church Leadership Team meetings by representing the music ministry of Rehoboth.

• Work with the Staff Parish Relations Committee to define, recruit, and select for subordinate positions as needed, including:

o Assistant Director of Music Ministry

o Organist/Accompanist

o Audio/Video Technician

o Other appropriate positions that may be authorized in the future

• Keep alert to new, innovative musical opportunities, methods, materials to enhance the overall music ministry of the church and to meet the musical needs expressed by members of the congregation, regardless of age or membership status

• Provide leadership in the church by demonstrating strong spiritual commitment and Christian principals.

• Perform performance review and goal setting with those directly reporting to the position.

Rehoboth UMC Staff Expectations:

• The Director of Music Ministry, along with all employees of Rehoboth UMC, is expected to (1) live a lifestyle that brings honor to Christ and church, (2) fully affirm UM theology and policy as outlined in the UM Book of Discipline and (3) participate as a team member with the rest of the church staff.
• Work rehearsals each week.
• Attend Church Leadership Team meetings as scheduled.
• Work additional rehearsals as needed for special events.

Required skills and experiences:

The Director of Music Ministry must have prior experience and formal training in music ministry, preferably within the United Methodist Church. The candidate must also demonstrate skills in planning, coordinating and implementing various aspects of music ministry, directly and with the aid of subordinate staff. The Director of Music Ministry must possess strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrate those skills in building and maintaining successful relationships with staff and congregants.
