#: 00846589 - Requisition #: 39919Job Summary:Assistant Professors are Clinical
Faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine that will work in the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Network of Care (NOC)
including Emergency Departments in Colorado. In this role, Instructors will provide medical care to acutely ill and injured pediatric
patients age birth to 26 years. They will perform history taking, physical examinations, define and execute appropriate workup that leads to
diagnosis with treatment and disposition plan.
Key Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the position
include, but are not limited to:
100% Clinical Effort- You will be expected to maintain 1.0cFTE (clinical
effort). Clinical Practitioners at 1.0 cFTE will be expected to provide coverage for 1,376 hours. All clinical hours obligations are
negotiable with the Section Head at any time. This coverage will consist of Children's Hospital Colorado, Anschutz and Network of Care
locations. Coverage will include:
- Pediatric emergency care
- Pediatric Observation Unit
medicine
- Jeopardy shifts (an internal physician coverage system for unanticipated absence)
- Practitioner must
maintain active medical staff privileges at all other facilities where ED or urgent care services are provided by the Children's Hospital
Colorado NOC unless a site is specifically excluded by mutual agreement by the practitioner and the medical director of the Children's
Hospital Colorado NOC.
- You will be expected to attend at least 75% of the monthly joint section and operational updates meetings of
the Section of Emergency Medicine.
- It is recommended that you participate in Children's Hospital Colorado Main OR with
anesthesiology one time per year to maintain airway skills as well as other technical seminars as deemed by the section and/or practice site
in conjunction with input from the medical director.
- Clinical teaching of Medical Students, Family Practice Residents and Pediatric
Residents
- Clinical Supervision and support of onboarding for Advanced Practice Providers
- Attendance and participation in
required Section monthly meetings
- Participation in Quality Improvement and development of Clinical Care
Guidelines
- Maintenance of skills required for provision of high quality, patient centered, safe urgent/emergent care of children.
Annual requirements include but may not be limited to:
o Two half-day Acute Care Education sessions put on by the Section per
academic year
o One high fidelity code simulation at the Simulation Center at CHCO and at least one code simulation at a local NOC
site per academic year
o Maintenance of PALS certification
o Maintenance of CME relevant to clinical work
o Attend
other technical seminars as deemed mandatory by the section and/or practice site in conjunction with input from the Director
Work Location:Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must meet minimum
qualifications at the time of hire.
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree
Board certification
and eligibility in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or Emergency Medicine.
Active certification in Pediatric Advanced Life
Support
Active Colorado Medical License
Active Colorado State DEA license
Two or more years' experience
in pediatric acute care environment
Experience teaching medical students and residents
Completion of fellowship
training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Experience with pediatric patient population; pediatric emergency, critical care or
urgent care exposure ideal
POCUS trained
Knowledge, Skills and
Abilities:Knowledge Advanced understanding of pediatric disease and injury
patterns
Understanding of and familiarity with resources to assist in making clinical decisions and
diagnosis
Skills Use of electronic medical record (EPIC)
Teaching of medical
learners
Effectively and respectfully field calls from referring physicians to facilitate referral to site appropriate for
presenting problem/service requested and transport to site
Technical skills Interpretation of plain
radiographs
Foreign body removal
Laceration repair, including vermillion border and nail bed repair (some advanced
techniques can be learned on job)
Incision and drainage
Reduction of minor digit fractures or joint dislocations
(can be learned on job)
Nerve blocks
Lumbar puncture
IV fluid management of electrolyte and endocrine
derangements
Acute respiratory care
Intubation (ongoing yearly skills training mandatory)
Pediatric
resuscitation (must maintain PALS certification and complete required annual mock resuscitations)
Procedural Sedation (do not
need to hold previous credentials but must obtain credentialing at CHCO. Process in place for education and assisting with obtaining
credentials.)
Abilities Work efficiently in a fast paced, acute care environment for 8-12 hours at a
time
Promote teamwork amongst nurses, techs, learners, and colleagues
Strong communication and interpersonal
skills
Work a mix of days, evening, overnights, weekend, and holiday shifts

Anticipated Pay Range:The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
HIRING RANGE:$225,000 to $245,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good

compensation unless it is non-exempt.
