The Education Licensing Specialist II is a vital member of the Licensing Team within the Education Approvals Division at the Agency of Education. This division is responsible for maintaining the integrity of Vermont's education system by overseeing educator standards, preparation programs, independent schools, and licensure.

The Licensing Specialist II focuses on the critical operations of the licensure process. The core mission is to ensure that educators entering or renewing their credentials meet all state requirements, with a heavy emphasis on processing temporary licenses, supporting the licensing system, and coordinating mandatory criminal background checks. This role requires a blend of high-level organization, technical data management, and clear communication to support Vermont's educator workforce, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
As a Licensing Specialist II, your duties include, but are not limited to:
- Licensure Processing & Compliance
- Review and process applications for Temporary Licenses, Level I & II Renewals, and Retired Educator applications.
- Ensure all applicants for temporary licensure meet foundational state requirements.
- Support peers in the comprehensive review of diverse licensure application types to ensure division-wide accuracy.
- Support CRC processes and procedures for all licensure applicants.
- Complete Criminal Record Checks (CRC) processes and procedures
- Update CRC forms and materials, in collaboration with other licensing specialists
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality regarding sensitive applicant information.
- Technical Support & Training
- Provide direct support, including technical assistance, to Supervisory Unions/School Districts (SU/SDs) regarding Temporary licenses.
- Train and support both educators and internal colleagues on the Vermont Licensing System for Educators (VLSE).
- Develop digital resources, training materials, and FAQs to improve the user experience on the Agency of Education website.
- Operational Excellence
- Collaborate with the licensing team to develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manage high-volume daily communications via phone and email with professionalism and clarity.
- Utilize the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams, Word) to manage data and internal workflows.
