Job Description

We are seeking a Temporary/Fractional Packaging Engineer to establish a standardized, compliant, and scalable packaging capability across multiple sites. This role is critical in addressing systemic gaps in packaging design, compliance, and execution, which currently drive rework and delays. The goal is to optimize packing materials and layout to support program execution. The Packaging Engineer will operate across Program, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations, ensuring packaging requirements are correctly defined, translated, and executed in alignment with military standards. This is a high-impact engagement with executive visibility and immediate business impact, lasting 6-9 months full-time equivalent, followed by part-time sustainment or full-time positioning.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with MIL-STD-2073 (Packaging), MIL-STD-129 (Labeling), and MIL-STD-3010 (Testing).

  • Eliminate repeatable packaging failures across programs and sites.

  • Establish standard work, validation processes, and governance.

  • Align contract requirements with packaging design and shop floor execution.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of packaging engineering experience.

  • Strong knowledge of MIL-STD-2073 (Packaging), MIL-STD-129 (Labeling), and MIL-STD-3010 (Testing).

  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or highly regulated environments.

  • Hands-on experience with packaging validation & testing, preservation methods (desiccants, barrier materials, ESD), and shop floor implementation.

  • Ability to move quickly between strategy and execution.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Expertise in packaging design and compliance.

  • Proficiency in process improvement and requirement specification.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work environment with multi-site support required across the U.S.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of East Syracuse, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
