SHORT DESCRIPTION:

Heavy Equipment Operators, under general supervision, perform skilled work operating heavy equipment in the construction field and perform related duties as required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summary/Objective

Operate heavy construction equipment including, but not limited to, backhoes, skid steers, water trucks, dump trucks, transports loaders and excavators on various field projects. Specific duties include assignments listed below.

Maintain equipment being used, maintain all fluid levels and grease fittings, notify auto shop personnel of maintenance or safety issues related to equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds and occasionally more.
  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands and fingers.
  • Use hands and arms fully to reach for, handle and manipulate objects.
  • Climb and maintain body balance on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, crawl or sit for long periods operating equipment.
  • Access multiple levels of height and depth. Operate all equipment in a safe manner.
  • You will need knowledge of and an understanding of the OSHA standards, 1926 Subpart P App A- Soil Classification and 1926 Subpart P App B - Sloping and Benching.
  • You will be responsible for a safe excavation when digging and abide by the OSHA Standards.
  • Perform other routine duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Daily Equipment inspections prior to operating equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of related experience;
  • Current and valid drivers license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jaynes Structures automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jaynes Structures vehicle:
  • Possesses working knowledge of woodworking and general finishing techniques;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standards;
  • High degree of attention to detail;
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member; and
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Equipment Operators may work in a variety of environments which will include working outside in extreme weather conditions and noise levels

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position can require strenuous physical work. Physical demands include frequent lifting and carrying of objects over 20 pounds, often combined with stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, and working in confined spaces.

Must pass a pre-employment screen, including but not limited to: drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check and physical (if applicable) +. Current and valid drivers license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jaynes automobile insurance carrier in order to drive a Jaynes vehicle). Proof of current completion of a general course recognized by Jaynes in Hazardous Substances - Recognition and Protection, if applicable. (Or must attend next available class.
