Special Education Teacher – Social & Emotional Learning Focus

Genesis Learning Centers is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children and adolescents with significant social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and learning challenges. Since 1984, we have partnered with families across Middle Tennessee to provide therapeutic educational environments where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow.

We are currently seeking a certified Special Education Teacher to support students with primary social and emotional needs at our Nashville campus.

About the Role

This position is ideal for an educator who understands that behavior is communication and is passionate about helping students build emotional regulation, coping skills, and academic confidence. Our classrooms are small, structured, and therapeutic, allowing teachers to provide individualized instruction and meaningful relationship-based support.

You will work closely with an Associate Teacher Counselor and a multidisciplinary team to ensure each student receives integrated academic and social-emotional support.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
• Deliver differentiated instruction aligned with Tennessee state standards
• Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies into daily instruction
• Utilize trauma-informed and positive behavior intervention practices
• Collaborate with families, counselors, and support staff
• Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports
• Foster a structured, calm, and supportive classroom environment

Qualifications

• Valid Tennessee Special Education teaching license
• Experience working with students with emotional or behavioral challenges preferred
• Strong classroom management and de-escalation skills
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and SEL frameworks a plus
• Deep commitment to helping students develop both academically and emotionally
• Ability to pass a fingerprint/background check and drug screen
