Position: K-2 Teacher Assistant

Position Overview:
The K-2 Teacher Assistant plays a vital role in supporting early childhood instruction by assisting classroom teachers in delivering high-quality, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. This role focuses on supporting small group instruction, reinforcing foundational skills, and helping maintain a positive, structured classroom environment aligned to Rowe's culture and climate expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support
- Support classroom teachers in delivering whole group and small group instruction in literacy and math.
- Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce foundational skills such as phonics, reading fluency, number sense, and basic operations.
- Assist in implementing lesson plans, activities, and instructional materials prepared by the teacher.
- Provide targeted support to students based on teacher direction and student needs.
Classroom Management & Culture
- Support the implementation of classroom routines, procedures, and expectations aligned to Rowe's core values of Pride, Success, and Honor.
- Reinforce positive behavior and support students in developing self-regulation and social-emotional skills.
- Assist in maintaining a structured, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
- Support transitions (arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and specials) to ensure smooth and efficient movement.
Student Support & Intervention
- Provide additional support to students who may need extra help academically or behaviorally.
- Assist in implementing interventions and accommodations as directed by the teacher or support staff.
- Support students with diverse learning needs, including English Learners and students receiving additional services.
- Monitor student engagement and provide feedback to the teacher on student progress and needs.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure student success.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school initiatives as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student needs, progress, and concerns.
Operational & Classroom Support
- Assist with preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, and maintaining a clean and organized learning space.
- Support basic clerical tasks such as copying, filing, and organizing materials.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times as needed.
- Assist with classroom technology and materials to support instruction.
Qualifications:
Required: - High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Commitment to supporting student growth and development
Preferred: - Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
- Experience supporting early literacy and math instruction
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Experience working in an urban, diverse, and inclusive school setting
Chicago residency NOT required.
