Job Description

This role focuses on creating offline robot programs for robotic paint production processes and supporting digital engineering activities across multiple plants. You will collaborate closely with regional paint engineering teams to study, trial, and optimize robotic paint applications, ensuring they meet safety, quality, productivity, and cost targets. The position involves leading cross-functional meetings, preparing detailed documentation, and traveling to facilities in the United States, Mexico, and Canada to support ongoing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Create offline robot programs for robotic paint production processes and prepare them for download into production systems.
  • Coordinate with regional paint engineering teams to study, conduct trials, and evaluate robotic paint processes based on safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Support the paint digital engineering group in developing reach studies and cycle time analyses for sealer, underbody coating (UBC), and dampening coat robot processes.
  • Support the paint digital engineering group in developing reach studies and cycle time analyses for primer, base, clear, and interior robot processes.
  • Lead meetings with related groups to review project status, technical issues, and process improvements for robotic paint applications.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including process descriptions, programming specifications, and trial reports.
  • Support manufacturing plants during implementation, troubleshooting, and optimization of robotic paint processes.
  • Work with minimal direction and manage tasks independently to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvements in process safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Analyze problems in robotic paint and digital engineering processes and develop strategies for better solutions.
  • Recommend new projects, product or process improvements, and cost reduction opportunities based on data and observations.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects or workstreams, and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers, production staff, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and progress.

Essential Skills

  • Experience programming paint robots using offline programming software or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with automated robotic paint shop applications.
  • Experience with digital engineering in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics and robot programming, particularly in paint applications.
  • Knowledge of controls engineering concepts for automated systems.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Catia, or SolidWorks.
  • Mechanical engineering or mechatronics background, supported by an associate or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with robotic systems such as Kawasaki and FANUC robots.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction and operate independently in a technical environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently across multiple projects.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and develop effective strategies for improved solutions.
  • Flexibility to handle several aspects of a project or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to take initiative in recommending projects, product improvements, or cost reductions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience, or 4-year technical degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Additional related certifications in robotics, digital engineering, controls, or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical design and understanding of mechanical systems in automated environments.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and a desire to tackle complex technical challenges.
  • Experience working in long-term, project-based engineering environments.
  • Comfort working within structured processes and documentation standards common in large manufacturing organizations.
Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Georgetown, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
