Inventory & Returns Specialist
Company: ShipNomad (Nexgen Distro, Inc.)
Location: Antioch, TN — On-site
Department: Fulfillment Operations
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly
About ShipNomad
ShipNomad is a third-party logistics (3PL) provider operating out of a 52,500 sq ft facility in LaVergne, TN. We fulfill DTC e-commerce orders for fast-growing brands across supplements, beauty/wellness, apparel, and trading cards. Our tech stack includes ShipHero WMS, PIO robotic picking, and a multi-carrier shipping network. We're building the most reliable, tech-forward 3PL in the Southeast — and inventory accuracy is the foundation everything else is built on.
Position Summary
The Inventory & Returns Specialist owns the accuracy of our warehouse every SKU, every location, every count. This role is responsible for daily cycle counts, verifying products are stored in the correct locations, ensuring SKUs are properly identified and labeled, and processing all inbound returns through inspection, disposition, and restocking. You are the last line of defense against shrinkage, mispicks, and inventory variance. If a client's inventory record says 247 units, your job is to make sure there are exactly 247 units on the shelf, and that they're where the WMS says they are.
Key Responsibilities
Cycle Counting & Inventory Accuracy
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly cycle counts across assigned warehouse zones per the established cadence.
- Reconcile physical counts against ShipHero WMS inventory records; investigate and resolve variances.
- Identify root causes of inventory discrepancies (mispicks, misplaced product, receiving errors, system issues) and escalate patterns to the Fulfillment Director.
- Maintain cycle count documentation and variance logs for client reporting and internal audits.
- Participate in full physical inventory counts as scheduled.
Location & SKU Integrity
- Verify products are stored in their correct primary and overflow locations.
- Audit bin locations to ensure SKU labels, barcodes, and quantities match ShipHero records.
- Identify and correct mis-slotted product, mislabeled bins, and SKU mix-ups.
- Flag damaged, expired, or quality-compromised inventory and move to appropriate hold locations.
- Support slotting optimization by flagging high-velocity SKUs in poor pick locations.
Returns Processing
- Receive, inspect, and process all inbound customer returns according to client-specific
SOPs.
- Determine return disposition: restock, quarantine, refurbish, destroy, or return-to-vendor.
- Verify return contents against RMA documentation; flag discrepancies (wrong item, missing items, used product returned as new).
- Process returns in ShipHero WMS with accurate disposition codes and condition notes.
- Restock sellable returns to their correct locations and update inventory in real time.
- Maintain organized returns staging area; ensure unprocessed returns do not exceed defined aging thresholds.
Documentation & Communication
- Document daily counts, variances, and returns activity in required logs and reporting tools.
- Communicate inventory issues, trends, and client-specific concerns to the Fulfillment Director and Account Management team.
- Support client-facing reporting on returns volume, disposition rates, and inventory accuracy KPIs.
What You'll Be Measured On
- Inventory Accuracy Rate: Maintain 99% SKU/location accuracy across assigned zones.
- Cycle Count Completion: 100% on-time completion of scheduled counts.
- Returns Processing SLA: Returns processed within 48 hours of receipt.
- Variance Resolution: Discrepancies investigated and resolved within 24 hours of identification.
- Restocking Accuracy: Zero post-restock mispicks attributable to returns handling errors.
Qualifications
Required

- Comfortable with handheld scanners, basic computer systems, and warehouse
management software (ShipHero, NetSuite, Fishbowl, or similar a plus).
- Strong attention to detail — you notice when something is one digit off.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for full shifts, and operate in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Reliable, on-time, and accountable. Inventory accuracy is a daily discipline, not a project.
Preferred
- Prior experience in a 3PL, e-commerce fulfillment, or DTC environment.
- Familiarity with ShipHero WMS.
- Experience processing returns and making disposition decisions.
- Forklift or PIT certification.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience
