Staff Accountant

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing company. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close, processing transactions, and supporting financial reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a small business environment where responsibilities may span multiple areas of accounting and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation
  • Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related reporting
  • Assist with customer facing invoicing
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
  • Support budgeting and financial reporting activities
  • Help ensure compliance with accounting policies and tax requirements
  • Assist external auditors during annual reviews or audits
  • Monitor expenses and identify discrepancies or opportunities for improvement
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Support administrative and operational tasks as needed in a small business setting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks & Excel required
  • Knowledge of purchasing software such as ProcureDesk
  • Payroll processing knowledge preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in a small business or startup environment
  • Knowledge of sales tax and payroll filings
  • Experience with financial reporting and budgeting
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accounting systems
