Job Description

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) is a dynamic, dedicated service agency that provides leadership, resources, support and accountability to the state’s K-12 education system. KSDE administers the state’s governance of education, standards and assessments, special education services, child nutrition and wellness, title programs and services, career and technical education, and financial aid. It is the goal of the agency to provide all Kansas children with equal access to a quality, high-level education that promotes student achievement and prepares all students for global success.

The department is governed by the Kansas State Board of Education, but the day-to-day administration of the agency is the responsibility of the Commissioner of Education, who is appointed by the Board of Education.

To assist the Kansas State Department of Education in carrying out the Kansas State Board of Education mission, we are recruiting for a Public Service Executive on the Accreditation and Design team.

  • The Central Region parameters stretch from the Nebraska line to the Oklahoma line and Council Grove to Ellsworth, spanning 88 systems. This region does not include Urban, Suburban, Private or Special Purpose systems that fall within the Central region. Those systems are in cohorts because of their similarities and other members of the Accreditation & Design team will oversee the cohorts.
  • If the selected candidate is currently under an employment contract with a Kansas school district, the position will be held for them until the contractual obligations are fulfilled and then will join our team.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

The team member designated for this position works directly with the Accreditation and Design team. This position assists with the development, maintenance and execution of the school improvement process in KESA for the central region school districts. This position is focused on completing KESA check-ins, which is a meeting between an Accreditation and Design team member and a school system’s accreditation team that serves as a progress check at six months into the school system’s KESA Action Plan. This position also attends, manages and oversees the KESA School Improvement Days that each central region school system attends in-person. This position’s assignment involves professional educational work and technical support of a specialized nature to school and district personnel for accreditation and school improvement.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Four years of experience in field directly related to education that meets the needs of the agency. A degree is not required, but can be used to substitute for experience as deemed relevant by the agency.

Preferred Skills and/or Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in relevant degree field(s) as determined by the agency;
  • Demonstrated technical assistance experience with the ability to effectively participate in small and large group collaboration;
  • Knowledge of current educational trends, practices and requirements;
  • Shows initiative and demonstrates the ability to problem solve, provide quality customer service and possess effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Flexible in work environment; and
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of common software programs and web-based systems.

Preferred Experience:

  • Understanding of state accreditation systems and continual improvement model(s); and
  • Experience with the Kansans Can School Redesign project
