Position Overview:The Secondary School Art Teacher inspires adolescent learners to deepen their mastery of the visual arts while fostering advanced critical thinking, conceptual development, and technical proficiency. Building upon the foundation laid in primary years, the secondary art curriculum transitions students from exploration to sophisticated artistic inquiry. This role plays a critical role in fostering creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and values both artistic excellence and the transformative power of creative expression.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneTravel Requirements:NoneKey Responsibilities:InstructionAdvanced Pedagogy: Plan and deliver rigorous art lessons aligned with Common Core standards, tailored to the cognitive and emotional development of middle and high school students.Medium Mastery: Provide high-level instruction using mediums such as advanced painting techniques, three-dimensional design, digital media, photography, and mixed media.Conceptual Development: Guide students in moving beyond technical skill toward conceptual depth, helping them use art as a vehicle for social commentary, personal identity, and abstract thought.Curriculum Design: Develop sophisticated thematic units that integrate art history, contemporary art theory, and global cultural perspectives.Differentiated Learning: Adapt instruction for a wide range of abilities, from elective introductory courses to advanced, portfolio-based studio sessions.Classroom ManagementStudio Culture: Maintain a professional studio environment that emphasizes safety, autonomy, and the responsible use of specialized equipment and hazardous materials.Mentorship: Act as a mentor to students, fostering a mature culture of critique, creative risk-taking, and collaborative problem-solving.Organizational Excellence: Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and inventory of diverse art supplies and specialized technology.Assessment & FeedbackPortfolio Development: Assist students in the curation and digital archiving of professional-grade portfolios for college admissions and exhibitions.Rigorous Critique: Facilitate formal individual and group critiques that challenge students to articulate their process and respond critically to the work of others.Standardized Assessment: Use data-driven assessment tools to track progress against Common Core benchmarks.Collaboration & Professional DevelopmentWork collaboratively with school leadership and colleagues to continue developing a vibrant secondary arts program.Interdisciplinary Integration: Partner with humanities, sciences, and technology departments to create high-level cross-curricular projects.Professional Growth: Actively participate in faculty meetings and seek out professional development regarding emerging art technologies and contemporary pedagogical shifts.Career Guidance: Provide academic counseling for students pursuing careers in the creative industries.Community EngagementCuratorial Leadership: Lead the planning and curation of major school exhibitions, community gallery shows, and participation in regional art competitions.Advocacy: Promote the importance of secondary arts education within the school community and engage with local artists or institutions for guest lectures and workshops.Parent Communication: Maintain transparent communication with families regarding student growth, college readiness, and artistic achievements.Other duties as assigned.Education and Experience:A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.A teaching certification is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching art in a secondary school setting, preferably in an international or bilingual environment.Strong knowledge of Common Core standards for visual arts and how to implement them in the classroom.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Proficiency in a variety of artistic techniques and media, including traditional and digital art tools.Passionate about the arts and dedicated to fostering students' creativity.Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.Comfort with educational technology and learning management systems.Ability to design and adapt instruction based on student data and learning needs.Strong understanding of formative and summative assessment practices.Commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and culturally responsive teaching.Intellectual curiosity and a global mindset.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, and families.Fluency in English. Additional language proficiency in French or Arabic is a plus, but not required.Previous international teaching or working experience, especially in a multicultural environment.
