The Equipment Technician supports a wide range of process and facility equipment, including pumps, vessels, vacuum dryers, HVAC systems, and automated equipment in a highly regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, while also contributing to new projects such as bringing in new equipment and supporting installation and commissioning activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, vessels, vacuum dryers, HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, and other process and facility equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on production and facility equipment in a timely and safe manner.

  • Support the installation, startup, and commissioning of new equipment, including assisting with mechanical, electrical, and automation system connections.

  • Diagnose equipment failures using electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation, and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Maintain and repair automation systems and related control equipment to minimize downtime and ensure consistent operation.

  • Install, route, and maintain electrical conduit and wiring for equipment and facility systems in accordance with applicable codes and standards.

  • Perform equipment maintenance and facilities maintenance tasks to support continuous operation in a cGMP-compliant environment.

  • Collaborate with engineering, controls, and operations teams to improve equipment performance, reliability, and safety.

  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment modifications in accordance with regulated industry requirements and internal procedures.

  • Follow standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices while working on equipment used in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

  • Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements and support implementation of upgrades and enhancements.

  • Support boiler, HVAC, and refrigeration systems as needed to maintain proper environmental conditions for production and facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • Associate's degree in engineering or a closely related technical field.

  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting equipment in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • 5+ years of experience performing preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment.

  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting hydraulics, pneumatics, and pumps/motors.

  • 5+ years of experience working in a regulated industry, such as pharmaceutical or similar cGMP environment.

  • 5+ years of experience with HVAC systems or refrigeration equipment.

  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems and components.

  • Proficiency in equipment maintenance and equipment troubleshooting in an industrial setting.

  • Experience working with automation systems and controls as an automation or industrial technician.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.

  • Experience with conduit installation and electrical routing for industrial equipment.

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience working with mechanical systems, including pumps, vessels, and vacuum dryers.

  • Experience as a maintenance technician, facilities technician, equipment technician, HVAC technician, boiler technician, or refrigeration technician.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting equipment engineering projects and collaborating with engineering and controls teams.

  • Background in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Familiarity with cGMP-compliant manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

  • Experience with facilities maintenance in a clean, controlled environment.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to adapt skills from industrial manufacturing to a regulated pharmaceutical setting.

  • Interest in career growth into engineering, controls, or advanced technical roles.

  • Strong documentation skills and attention to detail when recording maintenance activities.

  • Ability to work effectively across different shifts and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, highly regulated biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility that specializes in the development and cGMP-compliant production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, including enzymes used in critical medical applications. The environment offers a transition opportunity for individuals coming from industrial manufacturing into a regulated pharmaceutical setting. Multiple shift options are available, including a first shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday), a second shift (2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an hourly shift differential), and a third shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with an hourly shift differential). Technicians work with pumps, vessels, vacuum dryers, HVAC and refrigeration systems, automation systems, and facility utilities in a clean, controlled environment. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waunakee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
