Power BI Developer - Lead (Level 3)

Chicago, IL | Hybrid | Contract/Consultant or FTE W2

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level dashboards, reports, semantic models, and analytics solutions. This role is ideal for a hands-on Power BI professional who can partner with business stakeholders, translate requirements into scalable BI solutions, and work across the Microsoft Azure and Fabric ecosystem.

Compensation Range

Consultant / Contract

$65-$70/hr, depending on experience.

FTE W2 Salary

$125,000-$155,000 base salary, depending on experience, technical depth, and interview performance.

Key Responsibilities

· Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, KPI scorecards, and data models that support business decision-making.

· Build and optimize tabular data models using Power BI datasets, Azure Analysis Services, SSAS, and enterprise data warehouse standards.

· Connect to SQL, APIs, cloud platforms, flat files, and other enterprise data sources using Power Query (M) and data transformation best practices.

· Write and optimize advanced DAX calculations for complex business logic, time intelligence, and report performance.

· Implement Power BI security and governance practices, including Row-Level Security, Object-Level Security, workspace governance, and access controls.

· Publish, manage, and support reports in Power BI Service, including app deployment, refresh schedules, and workspace administration.

· Collaborate with business stakeholders, data engineering, and analytics teams to gather requirements and deliver scalable BI solutions.

· Work with Azure data tools such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake, and Microsoft Fabric.

· Support modern data platform architectures, including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, and Fabric-based analytics environments.

· Maintain documentation, version control, and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps, Git, or similar tools.

Required Qualifications

· 3-5+ years of strong hands-on Power BI experience across Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.

· Strong DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, star schema, and SQL experience.

· Experience building dashboards, semantic models, and enterprise reporting solutions.

· Solid understanding of relational databases, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipelines.

· Experience with Azure data platform tools, including ADF, Synapse, Data Lake, or Fabric.

· Experience with data security, governance, RLS/OLS, report optimization, and deployment practices.

· Ability to communicate technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Data Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

· Microsoft Fabric or Lakehouse architecture experience.

· Python or R exposure for advanced analytics.

· Spark, Databricks, or big data ecosystem experience.

· Agile/Scrum delivery experience.

· Microsoft PL-300, Azure, or related Microsoft data certifications.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
