The State of New Hampshire, Human Rights Commission has a part-time vacancy for an Anti-Discrimination Paralegal.

Summary:

Performs law-related research activities to support the review of allegations of discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodation, and K-12 public education that have been filed with the Human Rights Commission.

DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):

Coordinates administrative support functions in a legal work unit, ensuring timely completion of work.

Researches and reviews state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations to verify and provide data and information for use in anti-discrimination cases before the Commission.

Drafts and prepares complete and accurate legal documents according to established agency and technical guidelines for Commissioners and Commission staff including, but not limited to, Orders Notice, rulings on motions, subpoenas, and other legal memorandum. Distributes final documents to required parties.

Coordinates availability of witnesses to ensure their appearance for testimony at administrative Commission hearings and depositions.

Responds to questions from witnesses, attorneys, and agency staff and clarifies procedures and policies to provide understanding and address concerns.

Enters and maintains data in various file management systems to ensure agency records accurately reflect case status and decisions rendered. Maintains document control and organization of legal files.

Receives, reviews and assigns hearing dockets to ensure deadlines are met.

Recommends procedural changes or alternate work methods to improve the flow of work.

YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience: Associate’s degree and 1 year of experience OR equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in civil litigation, paralegal work, investigations, law, or related field.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license or access to transportation for travel throughout the state.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience as a legal assistant in a law office or experience with legal terminology.
