Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Accountant position works in the District Three office located in Norton, KS. This is entry-level professional accounting work in the review, maintenance and control of financial records and fiscal expenditures
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Participates in the establishment and development (planning, installation, and maintenance) of accounting procedures, budget and fiscal control policies and procedures.
- Assists in coordinating and assimilating the District budget. Reviews budget status and encumbrances throughout the fiscal year.
- Conducts audits of each maintenance and construction office in the District to ensure that accounting procedures are in compliance with appropriate rules, regulations and statutes.
- Provides guidance, counseling, and training opportunities to subordinates. Advises and trains District and Area personnel on fiscal matters and issues pertaining to the SMART processing system.
- Assists in overseeing inventory accounting and control on physical inventory, maintains inventory records including data entry updates, and prepares and tracks transfer/disposal records.
- Facilitates the coordination of fiscal matters between KDOT Headquarters and the District and District Field Offices.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
- Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
