Starting salary for this position:
$39,852.80 ($19.16/Hourly)*

  • Offered salary will be determined by experience, qualifications, and skill set that the candidate brings to the position. Though this position is unclassified, the posted starting salary is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 25, step 6. Please contact Recruitment Coordinator for further details.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Department's mission is by using evidence-based practices, we increase conditions of supervision and the ability of residents to reintegrate, which will result in safely reducing revocations among Kansas parolees and probationers through risk reduction philosophy and a three-phased plan: Intake and incarceration, Pre-Release Planning and Reentry Post-Release Supervision.

This position serves as the Career Navigator located at the El Dorado Correctional Facility and is a member of the Pre-Release Planning and Reentry Post-Release Supervision teams that may include, but not be limited to, agency staff at all levels and with a broad range of system-and community-based external stakeholder organizations. Career Navigators have facility based and regional responsibilities with a focus on providing individualized career development, reentry employment support and individualized reentry navigation to access programs and services to those in transition. Embedded within correctional facilities and parole offices, Career Navigators play a key role in helping individuals prepare for and successfully transition into the workforce, supporting efforts to reduce recidivism through sustainable employment.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

This position serves as the Career Navigator and supports programming and services at El Dorado Correctional Facility.

This position provides oversite of Career Centers/Resource Rooms, ensuring consistent access to employment resources, workshops, and individualized services. Through group facilitation and one-on-one meetings, the Career Navigators assists residents in developing employment plans, preparing for job search activities, and securing essential documents (resumes, cover letters, ID's, birth certificates, training certificates) that supports a successful transition to the community and workforce.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supporting career readiness activities, including workshops on mock interviews, resume writing, job search strategies, and interview skills.
  • Provide oversite of the daily operation of facility career centers/resource rooms, ensuring access to up-to-date materials, community resources, and mitigate the barriers to technology.
  • Meet with residents individually and in groups to develop employment plans and assessments, conduct pre-release interviews, and support job application processes.
  • Coordinate and host identification (ID) and driver's license clinics, employment fairs and other employment focused events.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with Workforce One Centers, vocational programs, trade training providers, and community organizations to expand employment opportunities.
  • Provide linkage to vocational programs and trade pathways that align with labor market demand and residents career goals.
  • Support employer engagement efforts by connecting residents with job fairs, employer visits, and pre-release and post release hiring opportunities.
  • Works with returning citizens during and after transition to carry forward career readiness plans and support all necessary steps for the returned citizen to achieve sustained livable wage employment. This includes continuing to address barriers; find resources; communicate with employers; address related issues such as housing, identification/DLs, and transportation.


This position will identify gaps in employment plans and make recommendations to administration and leadership at assigned facilities to address those gaps. Work closely with assigned unit team staff and the reentry/programs staff to ensure that issues are addressed to ensure residents assigned to private industry jobs can participate fully in employment, while also having their case plan and risk reduction needs met.

Data: Collect, document, and maintain accurate records of participant career readiness workshops, job placement, employment status, wages, and retention data for participants pre-and post-release. Maintain business partner list containing information on employer contracts, individuals hired and salary range in assigned regions. Document in multiple systems to include SharePoint, Athena, and OMIS. Chrono all contacts and task updates towards goals.

Other duties as assigned that support the Programs and Risk Reduction vision, every individual released from prison will have the tools needed to succeed in the community and Re-entry Mission, by using evidence-based practices, we will increase compliance with conditions of supervision and the ability of offenders to reintegrate, which will result in safely reducing revocations among Kansas parolees and probationers through a risk-reduction philosophy and a three-phased plan.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency’s programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Social Work, Human Service, Psychology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience working with justice involved individuals, workforce development programs, case management or related field and one year community-based service coordination.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations, including individuals with complex barriers to employment and reentry.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain accurate case records, documentation, and data tracking in case management system.
  • Knowledge of community resources, employment readiness practices, and reentry support services.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with correctional staff, community partners, employers and service providers.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
