Kitchen Helper / Food Prep / Dishwasher (Full-Time / Part-Time)

Mai Thai Restaurant is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and responsible Kitchen Helper / Food Prep / Dishwasher to join our team.

This position supports the kitchen by helping with food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, organizing supplies, and keeping the kitchen running smoothly before, during, and after service.

Job Type:
Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available

Schedule Options:

Full-Time:

• 4 full-day shifts per week
• Approximately 40 working hours per week

Part-Time:

• 2 or more full-day shifts per week
• Approximately 20+ working hours per week

Priority Availability:

• Friday and Saturday availability is strongly preferred.
• Additional available workdays may include Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and/or Sunday.
• Final schedule will be discussed based on applicant availability and business needs.

Typical Full-Day Shift:
Approximately 10 working hours per day

• Monday–Saturday: 10:00 AM–9:00 PM, including a meal break
• Sunday: 10:30 AM–9:00 PM, including a meal break

Restaurant last order is at 8:30 PM. End time may be earlier than 9:00 PM if closing duties are completed early and business volume allows.

Meal breaks are coordinated and rotated within the team during the shift.

Pay & Growth Opportunity:
Starting at $16.94 per hour.

Pay may be reviewed based on performance, reliability, experience, attitude, attendance, ability to follow procedures, and business needs.

Growth opportunities may be available for reliable long-term team members who are interested in learning more kitchen skills, such as food preparation, appetizer station, wok station support, or other kitchen roles. Advancement depends on performance, interest, teamwork, reliability, and business needs.

Responsibilities:

• Wash dishes, utensils, kitchen tools, and cooking equipment
• Keep the dishwashing area clean, organized, and safe
• Help prepare ingredients before and during service
• Wash, cut, and portion vegetables and other ingredients
• Refill and organize food prep items
• Prepare and organize supplies needed for kitchen service
• Help pack or organize prepared food items when needed
• Clean prep tables, sinks, floors, trash areas, and kitchen work areas
• Take out trash and help maintain a clean kitchen environment
• Receive, organize, and put away food supplier deliveries when needed
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and restaurant procedures
• Assist kitchen staff and front-of-house staff as needed
• Help with opening, ongoing cleaning, and closing tasks

Qualifications:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Employment eligibility will be verified after hire
• Reliable transportation to Orange, CT required
• Availability on Friday and Saturday is strongly preferred
• Additional availability on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday is a plus
• Hardworking, responsible, punctual, and dependable
• Able to stand for extended periods
• Able to lift and carry kitchen supplies when needed
• Able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Willing to learn food prep, kitchen cleaning, and restaurant procedures
• Interest in Thai food, Asian food, or restaurant kitchen work is preferred
• Previous restaurant, kitchen, food prep, or dishwashing experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right person

Training & Evaluation:

This position includes an initial 30-day paid training and evaluation period starting from the employment start date.

Continued employment will be based on performance, reliability, teamwork, attendance, cleanliness, ability to follow instructions, ability to follow procedures, and business needs.
