Job Description

The Air Emissions Testing Technician works as part of a project team to perform third-party EPA air emissions testing and monitoring at industrial and manufacturing sites. This entry-level role involves extensive fieldwork, hands-on use of specialized testing equipment, and close collaboration with engineers to support air quality testing procedures. The position offers a strong growth path within a large organization, where all employees begin as technicians and advance based on performance and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct third-party EPA air emissions testing and monitoring at industrial, manufacturing, and refinery sites as part of a project team.

  • Transport testing equipment safely to and from job sites using a company vehicle.

  • Set up testing systems and related equipment at customer facilities according to established procedures and safety standards.

  • Break down, pack, and prepare testing equipment for transport after each project.

  • Record emissions data accurately and completely during field testing activities.

  • Collect air and emissions samples in accordance with EPA methods and company protocols.

  • Assist engineers with air quality testing procedures and related technical tasks in the field.

  • Perform office-based work approximately 25% of the time, including calibrating emissions testing equipment.

  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot testing instruments and related equipment to ensure proper operation.

  • Work at elevated heights between approximately 75 and 200 feet as required by testing locations.

  • Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to assemble, secure, and adjust testing setups.

  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of respirators and fall protection equipment.

  • Document work performed and communicate project status and any issues to the project team.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, geology, or a related field; other degrees will be considered.

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort using tools and equipment in a hands-on environment.

  • Ability and willingness to work at heights between approximately 75 and 200 feet.

  • Ability and willingness to shave facial hair to ensure proper respirator fit and use.

  • Capability to perform physically active fieldwork at industrial and manufacturing sites.

  • Strong attention to detail for accurate data recording and sample collection.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a field-based project team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in environmental science, air quality, or industrial processes.

  • Enjoyment of building, assembling, and working with hands-on equipment.

  • Willingness to start in an entry-level technician role and grow within a large organization.

  • Comfort working in outdoor and industrial environments for extended periods.

  • Strong problem-solving skills for basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Good communication skills for collaborating with engineers and team members.

Work Environment

This role is predominantly field-based, with approximately 75% of the time spent at refineries and other industrial and manufacturing facilities conducting EPA emissions testing, and about 25% in an office setting calibrating, cleaning, and troubleshooting equipment. Technicians travel to job sites using a company vehicle, and per diem and lodging are provided when traveling.

The work environment includes exposure to active industrial operations, elevated work areas between roughly 75 and 200 feet, and the use of safety equipment such as respirators and fall protection. The office environment is focused on equipment preparation and maintenance, data-related tasks, and coordination with project teams. Attire typically includes appropriate field and safety gear suitable for industrial sites, in accordance with company and site-specific safety requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Golden, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
