The Quality Lab Technician performs routine and advanced quality control testing on production batches to ensure all products meet established specifications before and during filling. This role focuses on wet chemistry and physical testing, including color, gloss, and viscosity measurements, and involves making precise batch adjustments to keep products within defined quality limits. The technician follows ISO procedures, maintains accurate records, and supports continuous improvement projects within the Quality Department. This position is primarily lab-based with some time spent on the production floor handling samples and coordinating with production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prescribed quality control testing on production batches in accordance with established test methods and procedures.

  • Verify that all production batches meet established specifications, including color limits and other physical properties, before filling.

  • Confirm that products remain within specification at the time of filling and approve final fill check panels for production.

  • Perform various quality tests, including but not limited to color, gloss, viscosity, and physical property measurements.

  • Determine and implement necessary adjustments to bring products into compliance with quality specifications.

  • Record all batch adjustments, fill checks, and related data accurately on batch tickets and other quality documentation.

  • Follow all ISO procedures and quality system requirements in daily work.

  • Prepare fill check panels and provide approvals for filling operations in coordination with production.

  • Consult with the Quality Manager on quality issues, test results, and decisions requiring escalation.

  • Support and work on short-term projects aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Quality Department as assigned by the Quality Manager.

  • Transfer hazardous wastes such as filters, rags, scrap paint, and solvents to the designated satellite hazardous waste area as required.

  • Apply and maintain correct labeling for hazardous waste containers in compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Complete and maintain annual RCRA training related to hazardous waste handling as part of job responsibilities.

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe workstations and retain storage areas in the laboratory.

  • Collaborate with production staff, including pulling and handling samples from the production floor as needed.

  • Ask questions, seek clarification when necessary, and actively engage with the team to support quality and production goals.

  • Effectively multitask by managing multiple batches, tests, and documentation tasks during a shift.

  • Use basic math skills, including working with percentages and fractions, when performing calculations for batch adjustments and test results.

Essential Skills

  • 1-2 years of quality control (QC) laboratory experience, preferably in a related industry, with wet chemistry exposure.

  • Hands-on experience performing QC tests such as color, gloss, viscosity, and physical property measurements.

  • Ability to interpret test results and determine appropriate adjustments to bring products into specification.

  • Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance principles and practices.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wood Dale, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
