Events and Marketing Coordinator

Job Description

SUSSERA

Events & Marketing Coordinator

Rutland Region, Vermont · In-person · Contract to start, with a path to full-time

About Sussera

Sussera is the organizing entity for a constellation of businesses I am a founder of across the Rutland region of Vermont. The work spans thoughtful property development, a forest school for children and families, and an upcoming project aimed at growing beauty, connection, and local economic growth.

The Role

I’m looking for an Events & Marketing Coordinator to work directly alongside me. You will be the connective tissue between these projects and the community they serve: planning and running events that people remember, and building the marketing presence that draws the right people in.

I’ll bring the vision and the projects; you’ll bring the energy, the craft, and the follow-through that makes the vision real to other people.

It is:

  • Hands-on and in-person; you will be on-site, in the field, in town, and at the venue. Many events happen on weekends and evenings, so flexibility with your schedule is essential. I will flex back: I believe in rest, rhythm, and protected down time.
  • Digital-led: You’re a natural with computers, software, apps and already exploring the potential of AI in both design and operations.
  • Multi-faceted: From customer research to social media posts to food vendor booking, this is a role that’s never the same!
  • A team player: while you’re technically a team of one, this role - as with my own - supports multiple teams across the various projects. You’re someone who loves to help others and use your talents to bring their vision to life.

What You’ll Do

Events Coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, and run events across the portfolio — forest school openings, booths at larger events, property ground breakings, fundraising projects, community workshops, and one-of-a-kind happenings we dream up together.
  • Own the full event arc: concept, logistics, venue, vendors, volunteers, supplies, run-of-show, and the post-event wrap-up.
  • Be present and on-site. Greet people warmly, troubleshoot quietly, and keep the energy moving.
  • Build and steward relationships with local vendors, partners, neighbors, and community organizations across the Rutland region.

Marketing Coordination

  • Develop the marketing strategy with me for each project — deciding what to say, where to say it, and how often. I’ll set the goals, throw out some ideas and make the financial connections; you’ll shape how and what happens and then run it
  • Build and maintain logos and websites and blogs using tools like Canva, Replit, Marblism or other tools you trust
  • Use AI tools to create and publish content across social media, email, and traditional channels (print, local press, community boards) so each project finds its audience.
  • Keep stories and branding consistent — in copy, imagery, and tone — across multiple projects with distinct identities.
  • Track what is working and what is not, and iterate.

Must Have

  • Based in the Rutland region of Vermont, or ready to be. This role cannot be done remotely.
  • An energizer bunny — or hare — who gets a broad creative vision and delights in the details of bringing it to life.
  • A community-minded person who genuinely enjoys meeting people, hosting them, and following up.
  • Comfort with modern marketing tools, including AI, website builders, social platforms, email tools, and basic design software. You don’t need to be an engineer; you do need to be unafraid to learn new tools and use them well.
  • Strong editing voice and a good aesthetic eye.
  • Self-direction. You can take a fuzzy brief, ask the right questions, and come back with a plan.
  • Flexibility with weekend and evening hours during event seasons.
  • Emotional resiliency. This role will receive and deliver a lot of feedback about the various projects and needs to be capable of managing others’ big emotions as well as their own
  • A real affinity for this kind of work — nature, beauty, education, place, and the long-term project of building a healthier local economy.
  • And, candidly: comfort being the second person in the room. This is early-stage and founder-led. The upside is outsized influence in meaningful projects; the cost is a real tolerance for ambiguity, experimenting and more ideas than we will ever have time for

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience coordinating events of varying sizes (10 people to 200+).
  • Existing relationships in the Rutland region or broader Vermont community.
  • Background in marketing, hospitality, education, forestry, design, or the nonprofit world.
  • Comfort with photography, short-form video, or basic graphic design.

Engagement & Compensation

This role begins as a contract or freelance engagement so we can find our rhythm together. For the right person, there is a clear path to a full-time salaried position as the new business and projects mature. Compensation is open and will be discussed at the interview, based on your experience and the shape of the engagement we build together but should be expected in the $45-52k pro rata’d range. Health insurance and 401k can also be an option in the full time stage.

How to Apply

Send me, Clair Purcell, an email with the subject “Events Marketing Role” — who you are and what you’ve done that makes you a good candidate — along with anything that gives me a sense of your taste and your range (a portfolio, website, social account, event you produced, photos, writing samples; whatever you have).

Email: clair@sussera.com

I read every email. I’ll get back to you (but the draft was likely made by AI!)
