Reports to: Costume & Shoe Supervisor
Job Category: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Contract Dates: July 1st, 2026–June 30th, 2027

Job Roles:
Work as a collaborative member of the Costume Shop and Production Department to execute the artistic vision of each show.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the specifics of the construction of costumes with outside costume designers and costume shop staff.
  • Drape and develop patterns from designer sketches, including calculating fabric yardage.
  • Construct and help lead costume build process from mockups through final product.
  • Work with Costume & Shoe Supervisor to assign tasks to costume shop and over hire staff, including builds and alterations.
  • Attend and/or conduct fittings in collaboration with Costume & Shoe Supervisor
  • Be present at evening technical rehearsals as needed.
  • Cut–or supervise the cutting–of all the fabrics for the costume from the pattern.
  • Take part in maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Contribute to the overall success of BalletMet by maintaining productive and professional relationships with staff, company members, guest artists and the public.
  • Approach and carry out duties, as assigned above, with a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualities and Attributes

  • Thorough knowledge of sewing practices, including both hand & machine sewing.
  • Experience with draping, flat patterning, and fabric cutting.
  • Knowledge of dance costuming and previous experience working with stretch fabrics is preferred but not required.
  • Experience leading a team through the costume construction process.
  • Ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines in time sensitive situations.
  • Use of Microsoft and Google software suites.
  • Ability to stand/perform duties for prolonged periods.
  • Be able to lift 30+ pounds and climb ladders and stairs.
  • Display exemplary organization and communication skills.
