Lower School Classroom Teacher

Job Description

University Liggett School seeks a passionate Lower School Educator dedicated to fostering meaningful, engaging learning experiences for children. Major responsibilities of this position include:

● Support of instructional and curricular needs of individual students

● Cooperative instruction integrated with grade level curricula and in conjunction with Lower School teachers

● Faithful implementation of curricular programming as provided by University Liggett School

● Thoughtful implementation of project approach work and best practices for young children

● Partnering with parents; communicating frequently and effectively

● Exploration of innovative teaching theories and practices through ongoing professional development

● Provide classroom management using social-emotional learning techniques, including Responsive Classroom

● Maintain effective communication with students, families, teachers, colleagues, and administration

● Support the educational mission of the school through varied activities, including faculty meeting attendance and professional development days, committee participation, events, and field trips

● Assess students using a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor and understand student progress

● Participate in additional duties beyond classroom instruction as assigned by the Head of Lower School

QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or a related field required

● Master’s degree in education preferred

● Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred

● Experience teaching in an elementary school setting preferred

● Familiarity with Project Approach methodology

● Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

● Ability to connect with students of diverse backgrounds to develop healthy, supportive, and responsive relationships

● Eager and willing to support and to be present in the life of the school

● Facilitate with technology in the classroom

● Student-centered and growth-oriented mindset

● Collaborative and reflective practitioner

● Alignment with the mission and values of University Liggett School
