Title: Physics of Light and Sound Adjunct Instructor Position Reports To: Undergraduate Dean Brief Narrative of Position: Instructor for a three-credit hour Physics of Light and Sound course, delivered in a Hybrid format. Responsibilities: Engage and excite future music educators in a one-semester, three-credit hour course that focuses on applying and describing the principles of light and sound. The course includes an introduction to basic Newtonian mechanics with a focus on wave phenomena. Topics discussed range from standing waves on a string and sound phenomena, to light propagation and geometrical optics. Labs and in-class demonstrations provide real-world examples and hands-on applications to the concepts covered in class. Advanced topics include Doppler shift, brass / woodwind instruments, resonance and interference.
