Full-Time Career and Internship Counselor (Assistant Professor)

Job Description:

The Counselor reports to the Director of Career and Internship Services, and is responsible for providing current students and alumni career and experiential learning counseling through scheduled appointments and drop-in services for career counseling and for successfully placing students into credit bearing internships. Counselors organize and manage outreach opportunities, workshops, special events, and other programs for our constituents. The Counselor is responsible for a student caseload and works collaboratively with others in the department, academic departments and schools and industry on program and event planning as related to careers and internships.

Essential Functions:

Career Counseling & Student Advising

• Provide one-on-one and group counseling to students and alumni on career development, professional growth, and the job search process.
• Develop individualized job search plans and career strategies; provide networking resources, alumni contacts, and conduct mock interviews.
• Assist students with resumes, cover letters, portfolios, interview preparation, and other professional communication materials.
• Engage with students through scheduled appointments and drop-in sessions in both in-person and virtual formats.

Internship & Caseload Management

• Manage an assigned student caseload and provide counseling related to credit-bearing internships.
• Support students in securing experiential learning opportunities aligned with academic programs and career goals.

Programming, Workshops & Events

• Develop and deliver career and internship education programming including workshops, classroom presentations, and co-curricular events.
• Support the planning and implementation of departmental and college-wide programs and events such as New Student Orientation, Open House, Career Week, Career Fairs, Resume Review Days, and related initiatives.
• Collaborate with on- and off-campus partners to deliver career programming and engagement opportunities.

Campus & Industry Collaboration

• Collaborate with faculty, academic departments, schools, and external industry partners on career and internship initiatives.
• Represent the department in cross-campus initiatives and partnerships related to career development and experiential learning.

Communications, Outreach & Marketing

• Create and edit informational materials related to careers and job search strategies including flyers, brochures, publications, and digital content.
• Manage and update social media, website, and web page content to promote programs and services to students, alumni, faculty, and employers.
• Respond to routine inquiries from students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, and external partners.

Data, Systems & Record Management

• Manage counseling appointments, scheduling, and documentation of student interactions within career management systems (e.g., Symplicity).
• Maintain counseling notes and related records while ensuring confidentiality of student information.

Administrative & Departmental Support

• Perform administrative tasks including answering phones, responding to emails, scheduling appointments, and supporting departmental operations.
• Participate in departmental committees and professional development activities.
• Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling, business, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of college level career services, experiential education, human resources, advising, consulting, business training or other relevant work experience.
• Knowledgeable of current job and labor market conditions and trends.
• Experience with career guidance and job search resources, technologies and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with career fields of interest in art, fashion, design, business and technology students desire.
• Knowledge of industry resources related to FIT academic programs.
• Experience with CRM, data management, or career management systems (ie. Symplicity; LinkedIn; Handshake).
• Experience with graphic design tools (e.g. Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe).

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

• Excellent verbal, counseling, and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills incorporating current technology.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Experience in guiding and teaching the writing of resumes and cover letters, interview preparation and job search strategies.
• Experience with delivering workshops, programs marketing programs and presentation
• Ability to analyze data, compile information and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of current and innovative technology; and ability to utilize relevant social media technologies including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a team and create a collegiate working environment.

Additional Information:

Salary

Salary: $80,736.40 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $80,736.40 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 83, after 12 months of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 30 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The working conditions for this position will be primarily in an office space. The physical requirement for this position will require constant sitting, occasional standing, occasional bending, occasional walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.
