Recreational Sports is part of the Office of Student Life, which is dedicated to supporting students health, safety, and success throughout their IU experience. The Recreational Sports mission is to connect, inform, and inspire individuals to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Serving over 36,000 students, faculty, staff, and community members annually, we offer a wide variety of programs across two multipurpose facilities, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, adventure spaces, and more. Our team includes 46 professional staff and over 800 student employees.

Job Summary
In this role, you'll lead fun, safe, and engaging fitness sessions for fellow students, staff and public members at the Student Recreation Sports Center (SRSC), Bill Garrett Fieldhouse, and occasionally other campus locations. Whether it's yoga, cycle, dance, or strength training, you'll help create a positive and motivating environment where everyone feels welcome.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Plays a key role in supporting healthy lifestyles and building community through movement.
Gains valuable experience in customer service, group facilitation, logistical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills that are transferable to any future career.
Designs and leads choreographed group fitness classes (e.g., yoga, cycling, dance, strength) that accommodate varied fitness levels. Selects music that enhances the workout experience and aligns with the format and pace of the session. Communicates effectively and model professionalism to create a consistent, open and supportive environment. Follows the Group Exercise Playbook, including specific operational tasks like radio checks and shift reports. Mentors new instructors and occasionally substitute for other leaders. Arrives early to sessions, set up appropriately, and begin and end on time to ensure a professional and organized experience. Participates in Staff Development by attending required meetings, trainings, workshops, and performance reviews to stay informed and aligned with departmental standards. Follows all Campus Recreational Sports guidelines, including safety protocols, risk management procedures, and role-specific manuals or playbooks. Exhibits consistent punctuality, accountability, and respectful conduct in all interactions and responsibilities. Fosters a welcoming atmosphere that encourages participant engagement, skill development, and enjoyment across all instructional settings.Qualifications

Working Conditions / Demands
These positions require frequently moving about the workspace. Positions require working both indoors and outdoors and ability to move objects up to 50 pounds with assistance. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location

This is a in person position and will take place at the following campus recreation facilities:
Advertised Salary
$16.95 per hour
Work Hours
Minimum of 4 hours per week, depending on availability
No position should exceed 29 hours per week across all campus positions.
Flexible scheduling is available and may vary by position.
Early morning, evening and weekend shifts may be required.
