Department Information
Housing Operations supports the on-campus housing and dining for over 12,000 students. We strive to create life-changing experiences by building relationships, developing others, and creating a sense of belonging for our students, their families, and the Indiana University (IU) community.
Our Environmental Operations team provides quality service through custodial care in residential buildings on Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) campus. We contribute to the health and morale of students, staff, faculty, and visitors by maintaining building environments that are clean and in good repair.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The person in this role must be able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times per shift. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Works during inclement weather (i.e., snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

This is an AFSCME union covered position.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana
Advertised Salary
$16.23 per hour. Indiana University is currently paying a shift premium of $0.50 per hour on top of the regular hourly rate to Custodian - Foundational for hours worked between 3:00 pm and 8:00 am, provided at least 6 hours are worked between those times.
Work Hours
40 hours per week, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
The schedule consists of Saturdays and Sundays with additional weekdays
