Part Time Librarian - Adult Services

Job Summary
The Locust Valley Library is seeking a part-time Adult Services Librarian to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, providing thoughtful reference and readers’ advisory service, and helping patrons navigate both traditional and digital library resources.

The position also offers the opportunity to contribute to adult programming, including book clubs and community-focused events, and to serve as Librarian-in-Charge during evening and weekend shifts.

We are a welcoming, community-centered library, and we’re looking for someone who brings a strong service mindset, is comfortable with technology, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly and responsive reference and readers’ advisory service
• Assist patrons with computers, printers, online resources, and digital tools
• Help create, support, and oversee adult book clubs, programs, and related initiatives
• Support adult collections, displays, and other public service efforts
• Serve as Librarian-in-Charge during assigned evening and weekend shifts
• Help support the smooth day-to-day operation of the library
• Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
• New York State Public Librarian’s Certificate
• Strong public service, communication, and technology skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Experience using library technologies and online tools to support patrons preferred

Compensation

Starting at $28.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
