The Public Safety Officer conducts proactive patrols, emergency and incident responses and responds to routine calls for service to assist the campus community, and enforces laws and University policies. Under administrative supervision, acts to maintain the safety of Elmhurst University students and employees and protect University property from damage. This is a full-time position. Shift covers 12:00 am – 8:00 am. 5 days a week with regular set days off determined based on operational needs.

Salary Range: $20.50. This is the expected hourly rate for this position.

Work Hours: This is a full-time midnight shift position. Shift covers 12:00 am – 8:00 am. 5 days a week with regular set days off determined based on operational needs. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Schedules are based on department needs, and are at the discretion of the Assistant Director or Executive Director of Public Safety.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
The essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of environments including patrol vehicles, offices, residence halls, parking zones, and other campus locations, with regular exposure to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including extreme hot and cold. Work is often physically demanding in nature and may require unassisted walking or running, standing or sitting, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, speaking, hearing, and using fine motor skills during routine patrols and incident responses. Work requires the use of weighted safety officer equipment and involves regular lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
