Position Overview
Breaking the Cycle is seeking a dynamic, mission-driven Executive Director to lead and oversee all aspects of our women’s residential substance use treatment program. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality clinical services, regulatory compliance, staff leadership, and sustainable program growth.
The Executive Director will play a key role in shaping the culture of the organization, supporting staff, and ensuring the women we serve receive compassionate, effective, and trauma-informed care.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Operations
- Provide overall leadership and day-to-day operational oversight of the residential program
- Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment
- Supervise and support clinical and administrative leadership staff
- Ensure consistent communication and coordination across all departments
- Clinical & Program Oversight
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based substance use treatment services
- Support clinical staff in maintaining strong documentation and treatment standards
- Promote trauma-informed, person-centered care throughout the program
- Compliance & Licensing
- Maintain full compliance with Maine DHHS Licensing & Certification requirements
- Ensure adherence to MaineCare (Section 97 and related services) regulations
- Oversee policies, procedures, and readiness for site visits, audits, and inspections
- Financial & Administrative Management
- Oversee program budget, financial performance, and sustainability
- Work with billing and administrative teams to ensure accurate and timely MaineCare billing
- Support strategic planning and program development initiatives
- Staff Development & Culture
- Recruit, hire, and retain qualified staff
- Provide ongoing supervision, support, and performance management
- Promote professional development and a culture of accountability and growth
- Community & External Relations
- Serve as a liaison with referral sources, community partners, and state agencies
- Support program visibility and reputation within the recovery and healthcare community
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in behavioral health or residential treatment
- Strong knowledge of substance use disorder treatment, especially with women
- Experience with MaineCare billing (Section 97 preferred)
- Familiarity with the ASAM Levels of Care
- Familiarity with DHHS Licensing & Certification requirements
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
