SALARY


The minimum salary is $16.587 per hour

This position is eligible for overtime (non-exempt), if applicable.

Pay Grade 510

This position is eligible for Hazardous Duty Supplemental Pay ($90/month, $0.52c/hour) and CDL pay ($1.08/hour) once obtained within the required first six (6) months of employment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled and semi-skilled labor in support of municipal forestry operations, grounds maintenance, and public space upkeep by assisting with tree care and vegetation management activities, as well as general labor tasks related to landscaping, debris removal, equipment handling, and site cleanup.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience
  • Additional years of related education may substitute for years of experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with planting, pruning, trimming, and removing trees and shrubs on city-owned property and public rights-of-way
  • Support senior forestry staff in tree inspections, site preparation, equipment setup, and safety zone establishment
  • Operate or assist in the operation of chainsaws, pole saws, brush chippers, hand tools, and other related forestry equipment
  • Perform ground support during aerial tree work, including rope handling, debris clearing, and traffic control
  • Remove litter, leaves, branches, and other debris from public spaces, parks, and work sites
  • Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment
  • Performs general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting, digging, and moving materials
  • Cleans, maintains, services, and conducts minor repairs on forestry equipment
  • Assists with any other manual labor tasks as needed
  • Respond to inclement weather events with tasks such as snow removal, salting walkways, and storm debris cleanup
  • Performs related work as assigned

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION


All Certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B and Endorsement N - Tank Vehicles within the first six (6) months of employment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
  • Must be accessible for on-call duty and be able to work weekends and holidays as assigned and during emergencies.
  • Positions are required to perform snow removal duties during weather emergencies.
