Budget Title: Instructional Support Assistant (SL-1)

Salary: $38,088 (10-month, college-year)

Binghamton University is looking to hire an Assistant Debate Coach (ADC) to help run the policy debate team and assist in its further development. Binghamton's debate program has consistently been ranked as one of the top ten debate programs in the nation by the Cross-Examination Debate Association, and has consistently qualified teams to the National Debate Tournament. The team travels to both regional and national tournaments and has students that compete on the Varsity, JV, and Novice levels. Ideally applicants will have a history of success working with all levels of debate, as well as experience in coordinating and travelling with up to twenty students at a time.

The responsibilities include all duties necessary for the coaching, and travelling, of a nationally competitive policy debate team. This includes running squad meetings, coordinating research assignments, working with individual partnerships, scouting, judging, driving, travel 5-7 weekends a semester, and all other necessary preparation work for competitive success. They will be expected to work with all students on the team throughout the competitive year, as well as help coordinate more individual coaching assignments to assistant coaches and varsity team members. They will also be responsible for helping coordinate and set the travel schedule and partnerships to maximize the goals of the overall squad.

In addition to coaching, the ADC may be required to teach one course a semester at the discretion of the Director of Speech and Debate in consultation with individual departments within Harpur College. This will be done in exchange for a lightened coaching load, and in order to serve as an increased recruitment base for the team.
