The Risk Control Representative plays a key role in supporting The Mutual Group (TMG), GuideOne Insurance, and future member organizations by providing timely, accurate risk control insights that support underwriting decisions and reduce loss potential. This position delivers desk-based, telephone, and virtual risk control services, including exposure analysis, third-party vendor report review, and the development of actionable risk improvement recommendations. The role serves as a liaison among underwriting partners, agencies, insureds, and external vendors, while also contributing to innovation initiatives and training efforts within the Risk Control department.
Work Arrangement:
Employees who live within 30 miles of the TMG home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule. The initial training period may require additional in‑office days.
Accountabilities:
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform desk reviews of policyholders to evaluate exposures, identify issues, and recommend appropriate risk improvements.
Review and process third-party loss control vendor reports for accuracy, completeness, and quality; develop and communicate risk improvement recommendations to policyholders and agents.
Respond to inbound phone calls and emails from agencies and insureds, primarily related to safety recommendations, survey findings, and risk control guidance.
Consult with policyholders, underwriters, and agents to address safety, loss prevention, and risk-related questions.
Conduct telephone and virtual risk control surveys in support of underwriting and risk assessment needs.
Perform large account claim analysis to identify loss trends, root causes, and loss prevention opportunities.
Support innovation projects and pilot programs, including process improvements, technology enhancements, and new service models within the Risk Control department.
Act as Department Coordinator Backup, supporting workflow continuity, scheduling, and internal processes as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in risk management, safety, engineering, insurance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered OR
3+ years of experience in risk control, underwriting, claims, or other related field
Strong understanding of safety practices, risk assessment techniques, and regulatory requirements.
Designations such as ARM, CSP, ASP, CRM, or CFPS preferred.
Knowledge of life-safety codes, OSHA requirements, playground standards, and abuse prevention practices.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Proficient in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, for daily business operations and collaboration
Pay Range:
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$51,600 - $80,000 annual base salary depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location
