Department Information

India Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington promotes original research and innovative teaching on all aspects of the Indian subcontinent. Although our more than 20 full-time faculty members work in a range of disciplines and with diverse regional interests, all share an enthusiasm for the study of South Asia. Faculty are engaged in research in the humanities, social sciences, language education, and also work in the creative disciplines, and possess expertise in a wide range of subjects ranging from South Asian religion and history to contemporary Indian politics, law, literature, business, and culture.

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary liaison with Hamilton Lugar School (HLS) support services, ensuring timely and accurate submission of financial transaction documentation.
  • Manages course scheduling, including coordination with academic departments for joint course listings and collaboration with the HLS course scheduler.
  • Prepares and maintains fundraising communications, including donor mailing lists and personalized thank-you notes.
  • Coordinates internal events, acting as event liaison for activities such as lectures, faculty and grad meetings, receptions, coffee hours, and brown bag sessions.
  • Arranges travel logistics for both employees and non-employees, ensuring compliance with university guidelines.
  • Maintains and orders (as needed) office supplies, and coordinates with CITRIS on behalf of teaching staff for downloading fonts, etc.
  • Provides comprehensive administrative support across a range of operational and departmental needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

SKILLS

Required

  • Proficient communication skills

Preferred

  • Proficient in computer Microsoft Office Suite of programs such as Word, Excel, Data Base Management, PowerPoint , Outlook.
  • Experience in event planning and making travel arrangements, particularly in institutes of higher education.
  • Knowledge in language/area studies of the South Asia region.
